Three things learned from personal experience and the experiences of others:

Oniline Check-in:
If you haven't done it already, do it ASAP. http://www.royalcaribbean.com/onlinecheckin
You will need your passport and your e-docs and your credit card.

Which brings me to...
Budgeting:
When you check in at the pier you will get a SeaPass card. This is how you will pay for things on board. BE CAREFUL! This is not a credit card. You will be required to settle up at the end of the cruise. To some people, the itemized accounting of your spending during the cruise can be quite shocking. Depending upon your method of settling you onboard debt, you may want to make sure you have enough room on your credit cards or in your bank account before you leave.

You definitely want to have enough funds available to give your waiter, assistant waiter, headwaiter and room steward...
Tips:
Your eDocs (did you read them yet?) have a section on tipping guidelines. It might be best for you to set this cash aside ahead of time. No, you are not required to tip these four people, BUT they do work hard and don't earn a lot of money. If the people who have been busting their tails to make your cruise a special time by bringing you food or making amusing towel animals for your cabin have done a decent job, please don't forget them at the end of the cruise.

Having said that...
Tips (part 2):
If you get drinks from the bar or from one of the 19,807,219 guys and gals walking around the deck with fruity rum drinks with umbrellas in them, be aware that a 15% tip is already included in the price of that tasty beverage. You will notice there is a line for an additional tip. Use your judgement here, but don't over tip.

All right, ya mooks, here's the skinny on the Meet 'N' Greet. On sailing day, right after the Mandatory Passenger Life Boat Drill and Cement Galoshes Fitting, join up with the rest of us mugs in the Viking Crown Lounge on Deck 11. We'll hang out for an hour and a half. After that youse will have to track one of us big shots (Andrew, Lori or Me) down to get your stuff.

* Meet your fellow inmates!
* Check in and pick up your Official GothCruise Laminate (your pass to GothCruise private events, so youse don't get roughed up by the Robo-Bouncer!)
* Get some free loot from the nice people who sent us stuff. (Thanks, Carriemonster, for shaking dow..., er, procuring the items.)
* Get your t-shirt (if you ordered one).

No matter how much we leaned on the Captain, this year we ain't getting a private room for the Meet n Greet, so we are going to grab a nice quiet corner in the Viking Crown and get to know each other there. The password is "Magillah sent me."

In the off-chance the Viking Crown isn't open, we will be in the Solarium on Deck 9.

Our sailing date is less than 3 weeks away! Woo hoo!

Please make sure you read your e-docs and the "Before you sail" section of the Royal Caribbean website http://www.royalcaribbean.com>

The stuff you see below are some reminders and tips we usually post around this time, in hopes of helping the n00b and vet alike.

Before you leave home

    * Make sure you have your identity documents packed. Pack your identity documents in a carry-on for safety. Be prepared to explain any name changes.
* Check-in online and print your Set Sail pass. Place it in your carry-on.

The night before we sail

    * Put all your documentation (identity docs, Set Sail pass, etc) in a carry-on along with your form of payment for onboard expenses. This can be either credit card, traveler's check(s), or cash.
* Pack any important/needed items in a carry-on. This would include any medications, sunscreen, swimming suit, etc. that you want access to early on the ship. If you want, put some travel-sized toiletries in my carry-on since luggage might not arrive before dinner and it is nice to be able to 'freshen up' before the meal.

At the Port*

    * Plan on arriving no earlier than 11am. I'd recommend around noon for minimal waiting.
* Porters will take your checked bags at the port. The usual tip is around $1-2 a bag. You will be allowed to carry-on a small roller bag or duffel bag and a purse but not any larger luggage.
* A RCCL representative will show you to the check-in line. Sometimes they check-in by deck, other times it's just 1 big line. Check-in consists of turning over your Set Sail Pass, identity documents, and making payment arrangements.
* At check-in you will be issued a Sign & Sail card which acts as your room key, onboard charge card and ID for the duration of the cruise. You will not need cash on the ship. Make sure to sign the back of this ASAP!

On the Ship

    * On the gangplank to the ship you will be stopped 2 times. Once to get your picture taken for your Sign & Sail Card (required). The second time to get a 'Welcome Aboard' photo taken (optional).
* Depending on when you board, your cabin may or may not be ready. Lunch will be served in the Windjammer cafe (buffet style) and the pools and bars will be open, but not shops or the casino.

Things to do the first day:

    * Visit the dining room and check out your table (your dining assignment printed on your Sign & Sail card). If you have specific dinner requests - such as wanting to switch tables, dietary issues, etc - see the Maitre' D who should be in the dining room mid afternoon.
* Make any spa appointments or specialty restaurant reservations.
* Buy a soda card for unlimited sodas onboard. These are only available the day of sail!!
* Get familiar with the layout of the ship.
* Find the "Black Hole." You will usually see a bunch of us congregated in the buffet area. You will recognize us a a bunch of people dressed in black.

* For those in suites or who have achieved Platinum status with RCCL (5 or more cruises) there should be priority check-in available.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am pleased to announce your DJs for GothCruise 6!

Tuesday, September 29 - Spotlight Lounge:

3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
DJ NICOCHAN
Hailing from steamy South Florida, also known as the land of apathy, Nicochan obtained her nickname while living in Japan while on one of her many travels. A lover of crafting, sculpting small objects, construction of various modes of dress, along with a keen interest in things macabre and tropical, Nicochan hopes to bring a sense of light and dark to the night's festivities.

This will be her 5th cruise and second time at giving cruisers a chance to jump and jive.

4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
WINTERSMOURN
When not engaging in aural hijinks Wintersmourn ventures out in the big blue room, and with the daystar bright and heavy in the sky, he plies his trade in the film biz of the Ft. Lauderdale-Miami area. As a Tiki/Retro devotee he is enamored with mixology, wood carving, exotica and swanky lounge fun. But for those dark times, there grows a longing to gather with others whose hearts are heavy and whose nocturnal wardrobe is fabulousness incarnate. This is Wintermourn's fifth cruise and the second time he's been allowed the honor of providing your nice boots a groove to move to.

5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
THEONEBOB
True Fact: TheOneBob is actually Bob's AOL screen name from 1994. Bob started DJing on his long-running FM radio show, "The Shape of Things to Come" from 1985 though 2006 (that's 20 years) in the New York City area on 89.1 WFDU. His club credentials extend back to the best goth club ever, the Pipeline in Newark, NJ where he dragged 500 lbs of vinyl in every week, he also DJ'd at Limelight, Alchemy, Albion/Batcave, various GothCruises and was a regular at Contempt in NYC. He gave up club DJing when he moved to Florida, where they had no use for him.

Friday, October 2 - Spotlight Lounge

4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
DIGITAL ENIGMA
Digital Enigma is brought from the pixelated world of Second Life into the real world! Having gotten vampires in Transylavnia to dance to Echo Image's remake of the Never Ending Story theme and mainstream spa goes at Phoenix Spa to sing along to Voltaire, she's getting all gussied up to play your requests and maybe introduce you to some new music(or old music, we run the gambit in this vast expanse we call brain). Just keep her away from the booze folks, or the jpop will creep in.

5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
DJ STORM
Storm is a New York DJ who has spun nights at Limelight (Biotek,Lust), Mother (Long Black Veil,Click and Drag), CGBG's (Alchemy, Absolution), Coney Island High (Sabotage,Wasteland), Pyramid (MI7) and Downtime (Bound NYC) as well as other guest spots all over the scene spanning more then fourteen years. Spinning primarily Old School Goth and Industrial Storm creates a mood of infectious grooves for Rivets and Goths alike on the dancefloor. This will be his 3rd Goth Cruise and the 2nd that he has DJed.

6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
DJ DASKREESTOF
DasKreestof is an Industrial hardliner from New York who plays a mixture of old and new Industrial. He has held residencies at Zenwarp, MI7, Digital Murder, Automate and frequently guest djs at Contempt. He has done guest spots in Glasgow Scotland, Philadelphia, New Haven, Stamford, Trenton and the Battleship New Jersey. His rarely updated and out of date website can be found at: http://www.goth.net/~daskreestof/ .

Thanks to all of our DJs for volunteering their time and talents!

It seems that Gmail's been eating some GothCruise T-Shirt related email sent directly to me. Weird.

So, if you have not received a response from me, here's what to do:

1 shirt is $14.

2. Calculate shipping (If you are going to be on the cruise, skip this step, you will get your shirt on the cruise.)

Shipping is $2 per shirt.

3. Figure out what sizes you want.

Sizes for men: Small through 5XL Sizes for women: S-2X. The 2X fits a 50" bust (a sizing chart is linked here: http://www.imprintsconnect.com/specs/641.pdf)

4. PayPal the Order Total plus Shipping (If any) to theonebob@gmail.com Be sure to include the quantities and sizes in the message.

Tommy Two-Toes' Speakeasy
Open Bar Cocktail Party
Thursday, 10-01-2009
7-8 pm in the Spotlight Lounge

Lemme tell you about Tommy Two-Toes... now there's a story. He's the
ugliest mug in the Gulf of Mexico with a temper to match. You get in
cahoots with Tommy, and he treats you like royalty. You don't... you
get the bum's rush. But watch out, if you cross Tommy, or ask him
about how he got the nickname, Rustbucket Joe, the robo-bouncer, is
sending you on a 14,000 foot dive with an anchor chain wrapped around
your ankles. Just so happens, on Thursday night, Tommy is opening
his bar for one hour for his best customers, us. Drinks are on Tommy.
The password is "hang-nail" (AND, FOR THE LOVE OF PETE, DON'T ASK
ABOUT THE NICKNAME).

Announcing our two pre-dinner dance events (DJs to be Announced):

Tuesday, 9-29-2009, 3pm to 6pm in the Spotlight Lounge (This is also
Formal Night)
FILM NOIR: Relive those gritty days of the 1930's where every mug was
a hard-boiled private dick, every dame was a babe with legs up to her
waist and the world was filmed in black and white. Whether you're a
mobster or a moll, a guy or a doll, dress up in your finest rags.
Here's looking at you, kid.

Friday, 10-02-2009, 4pm to 7pm in the Spotlight Lounge
FUTURE NOIR: It's the future and nothing is like it was supposed to
be. Where are the flying cars, the domed cities on the moon, and
cold-fusion? Nope. Instead, it rains all the time, the aliens are a
pain in the butt, there's a shortage of Soylent Green, the blade
runners are the worst shots ever, and the cyborgs are winning. Wear
your dystopian best because Big Brother is watching.

Hello there! My girlfriend and I are booked on the Carnival Valor between Sept 27th and Oct 4th, which is also a western caribbean cruise, and it so happens that both of our ships will be docked at Belize on Oct 1st. We're planning to go on a discover scuba excursion while there. I've heard the diving in Belize is fantastic! I've dived before but it will be the gf's first time. In any case, I'm hoping that we might have time to meet some of you that will be on the Goth Cruise while there as well. The excursion is supposed to be 4 hours in length, and I imagine it would be something that'll start earlier on in the day but I'm not positive at this point. So I suppose this was a long-winded way of asking whether anyone would be interested in meeting up while in Belize?

Perhaps next year we will look at going on the Goth Cruise but the gf had her heart set on this particular cruise (she had already done all the research for it etc... and was more or less ready to book it before I even had a chance to tell her about the Goth Cruise lol oh well.) We're both essentially goth (although usually happy lol) and I'm sure will stand out quite a bit while on our cruise, though we both have more normal attires as well (I really need to find myself some goth swimwear at some point.) Anyway, looking forward to hopefully meeting some of you!
